THE SEVEN LAST WORDS
OF JESUS
What is Good Friday?
Good Friday, the Friday immediately preceding Easter, marks the day of Jesus’ Crucifixion. Jesus was arrested in the gardens of Gethsemane, put on “trial" in front of the people and killed at the hands of Roman authorities.
We do not forget that it was the religious peoples who killed Jesus. The religious peoples who did not understand or would not believe who He was. It was the religious peoples who, rather than let their greed and their oppressive practices be questioned by a young prophet, chose to kill the Son of God for the sake of their own comfort.
We commemorate Good Friday as the day that Jesus, the prophet, the friend, the activist, the Son of God, the humble servant, the foot washer, the chain-breaker and system-shaker, was nailed to a cross, mocked, scorned and killed. The day an undeserving man took the punishment for our ignorance and hate, and, through His own compassion and sacrifice, changed the trajectory of our salvation.
We want to welcome you to this holy space where we may worship together in the name of Christ Jesus. Where we will honor the young Man who suffered and died at our hands and imagine together the world He challenged us to create in His name.
The Seven Last Words of Jesus
As Jesus hung from the cross, He spoke final words into this world. These words were spoken to God, to the people who crucified Him, the friends who grieved for Him, the men who were crucified beside Him and to all those, Jew and Gentile, who would come after Him, and live in a world made new. Jesus left us with these grief-and-glory-filled words. At this year’s Good Friday Service, we will experience a meditation on these seven last words of Christ.
“Father, forgive them for they know not what they do”
“Truly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.”
“Woman, behold your son! Behold your mother!”
“My God, My God, why hast Thou forsaken me?”
“I thirst”
“It is finished”
“Father into Thy hands I commend My spirit!”
TMissions Offering
Each year, the offering collection at the Community Good Friday service is given to a mission partner in the Buckhead area working for the betterment of our community. This year, the offerings collected during the service will be given to Buckhead Cares.
Buckhead Cares is a newfound branch of Intown Cares and has been serving our unhoused neighbors since January of 2025. Several churches present at this Good Friday service worked from the ground floor to get this new organization off its feet. We are blessed to be able to serve the community in this new way and send our financial support through a community-wide collection of offering.
If you would like to give online, you can do so by clicking the button and selecting “Good Friday Offering” in the drop-down menu. Thank you,
