Carolyn died on May 17, 2026 at Lenbrook at the age of 97. She was bon on March 27, 1929 on Clay Street in Atlanta. She was the second child of Julia Christiansen and George H. Christiansen. She was predeceased by her parents, her brother, George Christiansen Jr. and her husband of 67 years, Denton.
Girls High School had a profound influence on Carolyn. She graduated in 1947 in the last class before the Atlanta School system changed to co-ed schools. For years that last class held regular reunions which she helped organize. After graduation Carolyn went to work at Burdette Realty Company. Working there was a true continuing education experience for her, where she learned bookkeeping/accounting when she asked the bookkeeper to let her help because she wanted to keep busy.
Carolyn met Denton, the love of her life, when she was 14 and he had come with some soldiers from Fort Benning to sing at a church she and some friends attended. Three soldiers had lunch at a friend’s home along with Carolyn and the two other girls. Over the next four years Carolyn and Denton wrote letters to each other. They were married in her grandparents’ home when she was 19 and he was 23.
Carolyn and Denton lived in Sherwood Forest for 48 years. She was President of the Sherwood Forest Garden Club for two years. Carolyn was the guiding force of United Publishing Company which she and Denton formed. They were a successful team and the company grew and expanded until they sold it in 1974. Along with Denton she helped establish Metro Bank and kept the records for other investments they made.
Carolyn loved her church, Second-Ponce de Leon Baptist. She was a deacon and a dedicated participant in church activities. The Community Wellness Center was important to her. She volunteered at the reception desk and attended exercise classes earning the admiration of many in the Pilates classes she took. In her 80’s she could outperform younger participants including her two daughters.
Carolyn and Denton moved to Lenbrook in 2012 and enjoyed being an active part of that community.
Carolyn was loyal and loved entertaining family and friends. She prepared countless meals and always wanted to clean all the dishes before she went to bed. She approached life with a “can do” attitude and a practical outlook.
Carolyn loved her family especially her two girls, Lynn and Terri. She cherished time with her six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She is survived by her children, Kristina Lynn Sinclair (“Len” Leonard) and Terri Diane Weinzierl (Greg); her grandchildren, Alyssa Davis (Joe), Peter Weinzierl (Meagan), Andrew Sinclair (Hattie), Jessica Emanuels (Gino), Nancy Weinzierl, and David Weinzierl; and her great grandchildren, Thomas Weinzierl, Harris Weinzierl, Annabel Davis, Henry Sinclair, Millie Sinclair, Keegan Emanuels, Sullivan Murphy, and Amelia Murphy.
