Atlanta Premiere of 300+ Year-Old Music of Bach
Sat, Mar. 21 | 8 p.m. | Emory's Schwartz Center Emerson Concert Hall| Cost: Free
Last fall, the music world was buzzing about the newly discovered organ pieces by Johann Sebastian Bach. The two pieces (called ciaconnas) were finally proven to be works composed by the German master when he was in his late teens. SPdL organist Jack Mitchener will give the first performance at Emory's Schwartz Center on Sat, Mar. 21 at 8 p.m. The concert will also include Bach’s Cantata 51 for solo soprano, trumpet, and string orchestra, Handel’s Organ Concerto called ‘The Cuckoo & the Nightingale’ and a performance by the Emory Concert Choir of Handel’s Coronation Anthem, “The King Shall Rejoice" conducted by Eric Nelson. The program will last about an hour without intermission and tickets are not required.
