New Safety Measures at Second-Ponce

Second-Ponce is committed to protecting all who work and worship here. In an effort to create a safer environment, we have added a buzzer, intercom and camera to the doors to the Welcome Center Entrance. Beginning July 17, these doors will be locked during office hours, which are 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. If you need access to the building during this time, please press the buzzer and the receptionist will open the door for you. The doors will not be locked during Wednesday Night activities or Sunday School and Worship on Sunday. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we implement this safety measure.

New Exciting Renovations Happening in the Children’s Building!

Construction improvements to the Children’s Dept. provided through the generosity of one of our amazing church members has already started! This first phase of construction will occur during the summer and will hopefully conclude by the start of the new school year in August. Safety and security for our children, parents, and leaders during construction is our top priority. You can help reinforce this message by walking children to and from their classrooms. The front welcome entrance (near the office) will be the main point for entry and exit. Sunday school for children will be temporarily located on the second floor children’s wing (currently utilized by the weekday preschool).

Room 216 will be used for 1st–5th grades (we will consolidate grades during the summer months to allow for student and teacher vacations). Will also be used  for Worship workshops.
Room 201: 4 and 5 year olds
Room 202: Toddlers, 2 and 3 year olds (Ms. Anita’s room)
Room 204: (adjoining room to 202) used for babies/infants or nap schedules.
I hope you share our excitement for the great changes happening here at Second-Ponce!

Volunteer Opportunities

Join Together to Feed Atlanta’s Hungry

Second Ponce is proud to sponsor a food drive to benefit Buckhead Christian Ministry (BCM). In 2015, BCM provided 17,441 bags of groceries to hungry families through the C. Spencer Godfrey Food Pantry. BCM provides an average of 90 households with groceries per week. You are encouraged to participate as a class, group, or individual. Pick up the shopping list and donation form today. Lets work to feed 100 families.

Average Cost to Feed a Family of 2 for 1 week = $22
Average Cost to Feed a Family of 3 for 1 week = $30
Average Cost to Feed a Family of 4 for 1 week = $35

There are three ways you can help:
1. Write a check to SPDL and put “BCM Food Drive” in the memo line.
2. Assemble bags with food from the shopping list and deliver to Second Ponce by placing in the BCM FOOD DRIVE bins throughout the month of July.
3. Buy a KROGER gift card! BCM purchases groceries in bulk from Kroger each month, and your gift card will be put towards our next purchase of food – just like a check.

Questions? Contact Margie Miller at EngagedTeam@spdl.org. Together, through the love of Christ and the hands of our community, we can join to beat hunger in Atlanta.

Coffee as a Ministry at Second-Ponce

WHY the change in coffee providers and HOW is it a ministry?
Second-Ponce de Leon Baptist Church strives to be a missional congregation, meaning everything we do aims to be in partnership with God’s redemptive work in the world. By switching from a corporate coffee supplier to a locally-based, fair trade, coffee partner founded on Christian principles we feel that this better aligns with our own missional vision and purpose. By purchasing our coffee from Land of A Thousand Hills, we are helping to bring new life to families and individuals in Rwanda, and improving the quality of coffee we serve and drink! (This new ministry is an initiative of the Engaged Church team, in collaboration with the Global Church team, as approved by the Engaged Team leadership and the ministry staff.)

WHEN will this new ministry begin?
During the summer, beginning in mid-July, we will begin serving Land of A Thousand Hills Coffee on Sunday mornings, Wednesday nights, and for special events.

HOW can YOU get involved?
As with many new ministries there are start-up costs and volunteer needs. We hope that this new ministry engages our members and visitors, and promotes fellowship. Get involved in one (or more) of the following ways:
1. Give financially! In order to completely transition to this new coffee ministry, new coffee equipment was needed. Help offset this one-time start-up costs by giving generously.
2. Volunteer to be on the Coffee Ministry Team! We need willing volunteers to help prepare our LOTH coffee on Sunday mornings. It’s simple!

For inquiries and more information on how to get involved, contact EngagedTeam@spdl.org

August 6–Volunteer Training for all Sunday Morning Teachers and Wednesday Night leaders

We will commission our teachers at the Sunday, August 6, 11 a.m. worship service and then adjourn to the Fellowship Hall for lunch and leadership training provided by Bo Prosser, (Coordinator, Organizational Relationships at Cooperative Baptist Fellowship and a Strategic Coach). Come help connect the dots during this Dynamic Outstanding Training event (DOT) and make connections with other people who feel as strongly as you do about this important ministry. SPdL Prayer Matters Coming to You

Occasionally we get requests from members to help them know about significant prayer matters such as births or deaths within Second-Ponce de Leon families. For years, our church’s Prayer List has been password protected on our website. The log-in password is given, on request, to members only to protect the confidentiality of the information there. Additionally, that same list has been distributed in print each Sunday (through Sunday School classes) and on Wednesday nights in the “Signal” publication. Now, we will also send church members an email notification each time such information has been updated within the Prayer List. This will give you the timely opportunity to know especially if a family is celebrating an arrival or has suffered a loss. We encourage you to use this as a tool to keep yourself and members of the congregation informed.
