Health & Screenings

Blood Pressure Screenings

Have your blood pressure checked (second floor game room) at the Family Life Center. There is no fee and no need for an appointment. To volunteer to take blood pressures, call Todd Washington at 404.591.4380.

Health Check

Health Check is a convenient, low-cost screening program conducted by professional medical staff. Tests include: complete lipid profiles; 26-point chemical screens; and complete blood counts. Tests will also be available for: prostate cancer; ovarian cancer; hyper/hypothyroidism; HIV; self-test for colon cancer; and heart attack and stroke risk factor assessment. Fees vary; payment is due on the day of service. Questions? Call 770.888.8988.

AARP Driver Safety Program

Attend the AARP Driver Safety Program and you could receive 10% off your auto insurance. This two-day course is NOW for ALL AGES. Space is limited. Register with instructor Mac Robison at 404.372.3638.

Life Line Screening

It only takes a few minutes to find out if you are at risk for stroke with one or more of Life Line Screening's non-invasive, painless risk factor assessment tests. Vascular disease is often preventable and treatable, but more than half of all strokes occur without warning. Please call 800.324.1851 for an appointment.

Adult Programs

Ceramics

Tap into your creative side at this fun ceramics class, where Brenda Bass will teach you how to make beautiful gifts and personal items that truly reflect your individual style. The class meets for six weeks, and you must register in advance at the Reception Desk.
Dates: May 12–August 28
Time:  Mondays, 6-9 p.m.;
           Thursdays, 10 a.m.-1 p.m.
Fee:    $35 for members; $45 for non-members (Supplies not included)
Drop-in fees: $8 for members; $15 for non-members

Pickup Basketball

Come join us for pickup basketball during your lunch break. Bring a guest or tell a friend -- games are open to everyone. Program fees apply to non-members, or join our facility and enjoy all our amenities.
When: Fridays, 6–9:30 p.m.

Parents' Night Out (Ages 4-12)

It's Friday! Enjoy an evening out while your children are having fun at the Family Life Center. We'll have skating, movies, games and more -- we'll even provide the pizza. Note: Advance registration is required by the Tuesday prior to the event.
Dates: Fridays, June 13 & August 8
Time:  6-9 p.m.
Fee:    $10, members; $15, non-members (per child, per event)

Birthday Parties

The gymnasium is available on Thursdays and Fridays, 3:30-4:30 p.m., for birthday parties, special events and more! Fee: $75 members; $125 non-members. To reserve a party, call 404.591.4380.

Ceramics parties are also offered. Children make a ceramic piece with a qualified instructor on Saturdays. Three weeks' notice is required for ceramics parties. Greenware cost is additional to party fees. Ages 6 and up. Fee: $50 members; $90 non-members. To reserve a party, call 404.591.4380.

ALL PARTIES: Additional time and space is provided for refreshments.

Skate Time

Join us every Wednesday, 3:30-5 p.m., for skating. We will have skating, fun and fellowship for everyone. You may bring your own skates or use ours. Parents are expected to participate and help supervise their children. There is a $3 per child fee to skate (members and non-members). For more information, call 404.231.0375. Please note: Skating season ends Wednesday, May 15.

Children’s Ceramics

Brenda Bass will teach this fun ceramics class for children ages 6+. Your child will enjoy delving into the world of plaster and paint, and will create memorable items – great gifts for friends and family, or even a birthday! Register at least one week in advance at the Reception Desk.

Mother's Day Ceramics Class

Come join us for a fun-filled afternoon of plaster, paint and pizza. Brenda Bass will teach this exciting class for children ages 6+. Our instructor will pre-select the perfect piece for your child to demonstrate talent and creativity on their very own Mother's Day present. Limit 20 participants.

Writing Warriors: Fine Motor Fun

We're offering an intensive handwriting program to guide your child through the fundamentals -- including pencil grasp and control and fine motor dexterity -- while teaching how to write either the lower case or cursive alphabet, one letter at a time. Engaging games and activities will be used to improve your child’s writing legibility, while giving him/her confidence and skills. Classes are taught by experienced, Master's level occupational therapists.
Lower Case Print: Ages 4-and-a-half-through 6 (Pre-K-Kindergarten)
When: Mondays and Wednesdays, June 2-July 16 (no class June 30 and July 2), 1-3 p.m.
Fee: $720 for the entire six-week session
Lower Case Cursive: Ages 8-11 (Grades 3-5)

Summer Day Camps

We will be offering a variety of fun and exciting theme camps for your children to enjoy this summer. Boys and girls ages 6–12 are invited to participate in the Youth Camps, and children ages 2 (potty trained)--5 years may join the fun of Preschool Camps! After Camp Care (Ages 2-12)

What happens when the camp day is over and you still need a little more time before you can pick up your child? The Family Life Center will be offering a wide range of fun and exciting activities to keep your child busy while you finish up your daily obligations. This program will follow the FLC Summer Camp schedule, so when camp is not in session, there will be no after care. Boys and girls ages 2 (potty trained)-5, and 6-12 are invited to come join the fun (children will be grouped by age). Children must have turned the appropriate age prior to September 1, 2007.
Dates: June 2-August 22
Time: 1-2 p.m.
Fee: $10 members; $15 non-members (per day)
