Chapel Building Renovation Project Update

Fences Up: Redirecting Access to Our Sanctuary

The key pieces for our Landscaping project are all lined up: landscapers, hardscape sub-contractors, irrigation and lighting installers -- and now, a chain link fence. The construction fence encloses our entire Peachtree Road lawn, from East Wesley Road to the side of the Chapel Building, and includes a silt filter to prevent soil erosion. For the next several weeks, the entrances to the Sanctuary and Chapel Buildings within the fenced area (facing Peachtree Road) will be closed. Although the sidewalks will remain open, SPdL members and guests will need to use the North Bridge Lobby, East Entry or Plaza-level catwalks to travel to and from the Sanctuary. When the work is completed, we will have a wonderful new welcoming front lawn with re-designed flagstone paths and gathering areas, a verdant garden with a responsible watering system, and overall better lighting schemes. In the meantime, we are still waiting for City permit approval for the main Chapel Building Renovation activities, so Sunday School classes and the early worship service will stay where they are for now.

Front Lawn Progress Report

While still waiting on permit approval before the interior work on our Chapel Building Renovation can begin, we’re nevertheless making great progress on the front lawn landscaping and waterproofing fronts.

This enormous drain system was recently installed under the front lawn, bringing us up to code on storm drain requirements. Here, the Gay Construction crew tamps down the dirt surrounding the pipes.

Look! The stairs that used to lead down from the side of the Sanctuary to East Wesley have been removed. This should help direct traffic to our new level walkways, while also eliminating a potential trip hazard.

Complete removal of the old Sanctuary platform will create a stable base for the new entryway.
