What's New Second-Ponce de Leon Welcomes China Interfaith DelegationSunday, September 7 at 7 p.m.Join our church family as we extend a warm Atlanta welcome to Chinese religious leaders touring three U.S. cities. Help us celebrate our partnership with the Chinese church as we host these guests during a special dinner starting at 7 p.m. The group includes religious leaders from the various faiths recognized by the Chinese government, new leaders of the China Christian Council and several Chinese government officials. Please make your reservation for this free dinner event by calling the Church Office Front Desk at 404.266.8111 or adding your name to the sign up sheets available in the North Bridge Lobby Area. Nominating Committee Needs Your InputThe Church Nominating Committee is now accepting nominations for church officers and deacons. Qualifications for these important roles are listed on the nomination forms, which can be picked up in the North Bridge Lobby Area, and dropped off at the specially designated box or brought to the Church Office, attention: Holly Welling, by Sunday, August 31. Child's Play Is a Wonderful Ministry, Too!The Children's Ministry needs your help in the Nursery during the 11:15 a.m. worship service. Two volunteers are needed each Sunday to check with the Nursery workers in Room 106 of the Children’s Building to see if extra hands are needed to help with the infants and toddlers. If you check and no extra help is needed, you will be free to attend the worship service. If you are interested in volunteering for this vital ministry to our children, please contact Sara Herndon, Interim Minister to Children, at sherndon@spdl.org or 404.591.4375. Disaster Relief -- and Friendship -- in China ContinuesThrough the upheaval caused by the recent earthquakes that caused so much devastation in Chengdu, our partnership in China goes on. The SPdL offering for Chinese earthquake relief is still active, and if you have not yet made a contribution to help, we would like to encourage you to do so now. Please pray about the relief efforts, and then consider whether or not you feel called to join us on our next mission trip there in the summer of 2009. Visit the very area where the earthquake struck and help demonstrate the gospel. Do not worry about whether there will be something you can do. There will be. A whole variety of activities will be planned. If you’re interested, call the Church Office at 404.266.8111 to speak to Dr. David Sapp now, and we’ll keep you informed as plans develop.
