We are proud to offer Divorce Recovery as a part of our programming at Second-Ponce de Leon Baptist Church.

While this is a painful time in your life, we are honored that you might spend this portion of your healing effort with us. We hope that you will feel comfortable here among us.

Here are some questions you might be asking:

Who is this for?

All ages of men and women who are either separated or divorced are welcome in our group. Many will come to us on referral from their therapists or counselors. It will not replace good therapy, but does supplement it nicely.

What will we do?

The format will include both large and small group interactions. Together, we’ll watch a brief video segment. In smaller groups, discussion and support occurs. Weekly reading assignments will prepare group members for the upcoming sessions. Occasionally, live speakers will lead on topics such as anger, self-esteem and relationships.

How frequently do you offer Divorce Recovery?

Groups will run at least twice a year, normally in winter and fall. Watch the church publications, or this Pastoral Care section of the SPdL web site, for specific updates. Groups are open to church members and to the community. Please pre-register with us if you intend to participate.

How much time does it take?

Our program will begin at 6:30 p.m. and end by 8:00 p.m. (We'll be prompt in observing this timeframe!) The group will meet one night a week -- Wednesday -- for eight (8) weeks.

What will this cost me?

A $50 fee helps us to recoup some costs associated with the program. This fee includes your book, Growing Through Divorce, by Jim Smoke.

But how will I make the weekly schedule work?

Our Wednesday evening meal is served from 5–6:15 p.m. Reservations are not necessary. The Fellowship Hall is located just upstairs as you enter the main building. Please feel free to take advantage if it will help you to make your schedule work better. We hope that you’ll enjoy the fellowship!

How do I sign up?

Call Charles Qualls at 404.591.4341, or e-mail him at cqualls@spdl.org. He will respond and brief you on the specifics of the upcoming group. Do you have a friend who might attend with you? Have them call, too. We look forward to meeting you.

Who leads the group?

Rev. Charles Qualls is the primary staff leader. He is the Associate Pastor for Pastoral Care at Second-Ponce de Leon. Rev. Qualls holds the M.Div degree with a concentration in family ministry. While in seminary, he worked in the Family Ministry department of the Kentucky Baptist Convention. Prior to his coming to SPdL, he served churches in Georgia and North Carolina in the area of Adult Education.  In Greensboro, N.C., his divorce recovery program saw hundreds of participants find support, perspective and healing.

We offer this opportunity as a part of your healing. It is available for our people, but most participants will be from the broader community. As such, we will not be pushing the general program of our church unduly. However, you are welcome at all church activities. We would love to talk further about Second-Ponce de Leon Baptist Church with you. There is an information display with brochures and flyers about many of our programs and ministries in our church lobby. Please feel free to call for more info at 404.591.4341, or e-mail at cqualls@spdl.org.  You are our honored guest!
