Welcome to the Children's Ministry of Second-Ponce de Leon Baptist Church

The Children's Ministry staff and volunteers of Second-Ponce de Leon welcome you and look forward to serving you. Whether you are a new member or a guest, we are here to provide for your child's needs during his or her time with us.

We encourage your family to become regular attendees at Second-Ponce.

Our mission in the Children's Ministry is to supplement the family as they lay down a spiritual foundation that, in God's timing, will lead a child into a relationship with God through Jesus Christ.

If you have any questions, please call us at 404.591.4375.

Children's Sunday School

Sunday School meets from 10-11 a.m., in various classrooms as noted below.

  • Infants begin their Sunday School careers in Room 108 of the Children's Building. They are moved to another room when they sit up well and begin to crawl. Creepers stay in Room 106 until they can walk well. The children are then moved to another room until the September after their 2nd birthday, when they begin the yearly promotion according to ages or grade levels.

  • Preschool children meet in classes on the first floor of the Children's Building. Room numbers are posted for each age. Parents of children under 3 years of age will receive a security bracelet that matches one given the child. Children under the age of 4 stay in the preschool area for the entire time of church and Sunday School.

  • Children in grades K-5 meet in classes on the 3rd floor, now known as "Bibleland." Believing that children learn and retain concepts best by using their strongest learning styles and by repetition, our Bibleland Sunday School classes give children the opportunity to study one story, person or concept for four weeks. Each grade group goes to one of four special classrooms each week, until in the course of a month they have visited each room. Although children have different teachers each week, they have a "shepherd" who accompanies that group for the entire year, getting to know the children and their family situations, and sending them birthday, get-well or we-missed-you cards as needed. The shepherds are the conduit between the church/child/family.

Bibleland consists of four unique classroom settings:

Temple School Room - Children wear "Biblical" cloaks over their clothes, sit on cushions on the floor as they study at tables. Here children learn the books of the Bible, memorize verses and talk about what Baptists believe.

Mary & Martha's Bed & Breakfast - Here, children work with arts and crafts, cooking, pottery or woodworking as the unit suggests.

Video Live!! - Equipped with a stage, bleacher seating for interviews, video cameras and players and a puppet theater, children in this room act out what they learn.

Bible @ Your Fingertips - This room is a computer lab with eight computers and one printer, stocked with age-appropriate Bible software and Internet access with filters. The computer lab is available during the week for computer use lessons for Senior Adults.

Children's Sunday Morning Worship

  • What is the purpose of Children's Worship?
To provide meaningful worship experiences which children can understand.
To train children in participation, understanding and acceptance of adult worship services.
To provide a help for families who are visiting our church.
To provide a ministry to our own church members who have young children.

  • Who may attend Children's Worship?
Children ages 4 through 2nd grade.

  • How do we worship?
Children's Worship is offered at each of our two morning worship services. You and your child sit as a family during the praise and singing portion of the service in order to experience corporate worship. At the designated time, children are taken to the worship center in Room 353 of the Annex Building.

  • What does worship time for children consist of?
Singing praise songs and learning sign language for many of those songs.
Presenting thanks, requests and praises at prayer time.
Taking up the offering and discussing uses for that money.
Using the scriptures, having a Bible lesson, and applying those truths to the children's lives. Allowing the children to come to the conclusion that God loves every one, that they are special and unique, and that God has a plan for their lives. And talking about what it means to be a Christian and the meaning of the symbolism of baptism.

  • What attendance options do families have on Sunday mornings?
You, as a family, may decide to attend the 9 a.m. worship service in the Chapel. When the pastor begins his sermon or at a time designated in the Order of Worship, children will leave as a group and go to Room 353 of the Sanctuary Annex Building. At 9:45 a.m., your child will be taken to his or her Sunday School class. At 11 a.m., parents will pick up their children from their Sunday School classes to go home.
    or
You, as a family, may decide to go to Sunday School at 10 a.m. Parents will pick up their children at 11 a.m. and take them to the traditional worship service, making a bathroom stop along the way. At the appropriate time in the 11:15 a.m. service, children will leave as a group and go to Room 353 of the Annex Building. After the service, parents will pick up their children from Room 353.
